Drum & Percussion Lessons

Playing drums should be creative and expressive. I love to approach music allowing it to breathe on its own and finding my place in it. I also value the stability the percussionist brings to music; assuring the music's message is fully conveyed. The best is knowing that you've played exactly what was needed--not too much and not too little.
At Marx Music Studio, each Drum and Percussion student experiences a variety of teaching techniques in order to maximize their learning potential. From the tried and true methods, such as George Lawrence Stone's Stick Control, to the benefits of many modern approaches from the industry's best players and teachers. Lessons are always interactive, often allowing our students to play drums with other musicians both live and prerecorded.

Here are some specifics concerning lessons:
- I believe the drummer must have a confident foundation of basic rudiments and trap set play.
- I believe the drummer needs to have a solid handle on time keeping. We will learn and practice with a metronome to continuously build that inner time clock.
- I believe the drummer needs to understand rhythm theory. While "feel" is important, it is just as vital to know what we're playing and why we're playing it.
- I believe that learning as many musical genres as possible is an important key to building a well rounded and experienced musician.
- Drum lessons are given in 1/2 hour increments. Hour lessons are a possibility and even preferred for advanced students.
- Tuition is $15 per 1/2 hour lesson.
- Tuition is paid on a monthly basis - due on the 1st lesson of each month.
- We've found that an agreement is necessary for student/parent and teacher so all the details are clear to everyone on what's expected for success. The signing of an agreement is required. This form has the answers to many questions you may have concerning the details of lessons. Upon request, we will send one to you for your review.
